354BD Rod Testing Technical Briefing
On February 26, 2014, the Toll Bridge Program Oversight Committee hosted a technical briefing about the ongoing testing of A354 Grade BD rods on the new East Span's suspension span.
Since 32 of these rods broke in March 2013, a permanent fix was put in place in December 2013. During that time, we have been engaged in assessing the long term performance of other similar rods on the bridge. In the past few months there have been opinions expressed and questions raised by interested professionals about that assessment. The technical briefing provided an overview how we are assessing the long term performance of these rods, described what the timeline is for that assessment, and what will be done with the results of the assessment. After the initial briefing, we welcomed technical input and questions from interested technical professionals invited to the briefing. Our goal was to share information and take input to ensure that the new East Span will perform as designed during its 150-year lifespan.
Below is video of the entire briefing, as well as the briefing agenda and presentations from and bios of our technical team.
