STRESS CORROSION TESTING BEGINS ON ANCHOR RODS
Learn how crews have set-up the test beds to perform the stress corrosion tests on anchor rods on the new East Span. The rods are enclosed in wet chambers, where they are bathed in a corrosive salt solution. Over the course of a 23-day period, engineers will use hydraulic jacks to incrementally increase the load pressure exerted on the rods until the rods break. These stress corrosion tests simulate decades worth of stress and corrosion and will help inform the long-term maintenance and remediation processes for the rods.
